The Wisdom and Guidance Advisory Group was established in 2016. The group consists of staff, students, parent and community members who provide ideas and guidance on supporting Truth and Reconciliation work across our division. We are honoured that local Elders, knowledge keepers, First Nations parents, and Métis students lead this group of passionate and committed individuals.
The Wisdom and Guidance Advisory Group has been involved in the following since its inception:
- Supporting the division-wide Project of Heart initiative
- Supporting our commitment to build a truly inclusive division and school cultures where First Nations parents, and Métis students and families are engaged, feel welcome and have a sense of belonging as they see themselves and their cultures in the curriculum and the school community
- Providing opportunities for parent engagement, including hosting a screening of “Indian Horse” and hosting KAIROS Blanket exercises
- Providing advice on the Indigenous Education Strategic Plan
- Supporting the development of our Supporting Reconciliation and First Nations, Métis and Inuit Students’ Success policy and regulations
- Supporting our efforts to decolonize and indigenize our spaces and processes
- Supporting our anchor events, such as National Truth and Reconciliation Week, Métis week and National Indigenous Peoples’ Day
- Supporting our professional development for our staff
- Building our understanding of local history as it pertains to First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples
